Where does the achievement gap exist in California K-12 public education?
"The achievement gap can be seen in test scores, drop-out rates, and rates of college entry and completion. The gaps in all of these measurable indicators influence a student's future ability to earn a living wage, pursue a satisfying career, and own a home." - Jack O'Connell, California Superintendent of Instruction, State of Education Address, June 22, 2008
Higher Education and Health
The major investment in higher education is very important, both for individual students and for the society to which they belong. Along with higher income, people
with more education tend to have more leisure time, better health and
life expectancy, better outcomes for their children, and improved quality of life in general. Only 17% of San Joaquin County residents over the age of 25 are college graduates. San Joaquin County resident’s life expectancy is 77.2 years. Whereas, 50 % San Francisco County residents over the age of 25 are college graduates and have an average life expectancy of 80.3 years.
